Doodling with Graphite and only Graphite
Sometimes – seldomly – when the muse wakes up and visits I grab a pencil and start making marks on paper. It is a slow process but eventually an image emerges. The most important aspect is not the image but the effect. The state of peacefullness experienced while drawing.
When a runner enters what is called a runners high they feel that they can continue forever. When a person crochets they seem to be doing it almost automatically. Of course it starts with learning the basics and lots of practice but looking back, there will be signs of improvement. In drawing the key is to learn is to see and then to try and get your hand to do what you see. In some ways drawing can become almost automatic … if you practice but then again only if you get started.
As with many things in life, the start is the problem with many things standing in the way. From the intimidation felt about ruining a piece of pristine white paper to the fear of failure, not doing it as well as you want. The feeling of not being good enough or even the feeling of being an imposter in the art field….. after all, you did not study art, not even at school. And then, you eventually draw something but keep it in a box because it is not good enough to show to people.
This gallery is a collection of doodles taken out of the box. They might not be the best pieces of art ever created, but I did this.
